Airlift Pump cannot Pump Grit

Grit removal may be accomplished in grit chambers or by the centrifugal separation of sludge. Grit chambers are designed to remove grit, consisting of sand, gravel, cinders, or other heavy sold materials that have subsiding velocities or specific gravities substantially greater than those of the organic solids in wastewater. For certain grit removal systems, airlift pump is commonly used to pump out these solids from the chambers. However, the demerits are:
- Airlift pump requires lots of air.
- Airlift pump has a limited capability of lifting heavy sand or gravel.
To solve this problem, Geyser Hybrid Pump has been developed. By changing the inside structure, Geyser Pump is combined with airlift pump. The unique features of this pump is that Beat Pumplifts heavy gravel and sand with a strong suction force, then airlift pump transfers them to the grit separation and washing unit. The headwork group of US Filter in Chalfont, PA, has been using this technologies for their grit-removal system. Advantages by Geyser Hybrid Pump are:

The first Geyser Hybrid Pump was installed for demonstaration at Jonesville Wastewater Treatment Plant in Michigan. A set of pictures show how the existing airlift pump was replaced with Geyser Hybrid Pump. The whole operation took three hours.
